The story behind... my series of products with dried plants

One day I was just browsing a bit in an old cupboard in our house. Among all those stuff you keep in your cupboard for years and years, I suddenly discovered a ring binder full of old school exercises. It was my mother’s old school notebook, from about 43 years ago.

My mother's old school notebook (don't you think even the cover is beautifully retro?)

I opened it and turned the fragile pages carefully. The book contained a lot of notes about biology and history, and stamps that functioned as an illustration about the subject.
I was surprised to see that they used stamps as a way to learn.

But then, I turned the pages further and discovered something really special: the series of plant specimens in the book were really stunning to me. So carefully conserved and cute, with the old pieces of tape that turned sepia. All of those plants or leafs were picked by my mother in the garden, behind the house where my grandfather still lives. Maybe those plants are still there too!

“Varkensgras met wortel”, that means “Polygonum with root”.
I scanned the best pages and made a series of paper goods out of it. I made three notebooks, a portfolio (with a drawing pad inside) and a set of 3 mini notepads. I used the images in full size. So when you keep a notebook in your hands, you really see the dried plants in the actual size. You can almost touch it. The bigger plants specimens were perfect for my notebooks, and some small leafs I found in my mother's notebook were just made to fit the mini pocket size notepads.

That's the story behind these paper goods! Hope you find it as special as I do.

Laat het me vooral weten! Laat een reactie achter of stuur me een e-mail via de knop 'contact me' rechtsboven.
