Blooming greeting cards: send a green message!

What happens when you send someone a greeting card? Will he or she read the message on the card, and then throw it away...? Not with these cards!

Garden herbs - blooming greeting card

Red poppy - blooming greeting card

These cards, with a print of my watercolour illustrations, are printed on paper with flower seeds in it. You can write a message on the paper and send it like a normal card. But there's more: you can put the card in a flowerpot with soil, and something nice will bloom! Isn't that a wonderful gesture to someone: a green message that comes alive!

Send a green message!

How does it work? Put the paper in a flowerpot with soil, or in the earth in the garden. Cover the paper with some soil, and moisten it every day. Depending on circumstances and season, the seeds will start germinating after about a week.

Of course I tested it myself. The first little white flowers are showing! Here are the pictures:

Put the card in a flowerpot, and something nice will bloom!

The blooming greeting cards with my illustrations, are for sale in my Etsy shop! Find them here: Red poppy blooming card and Garden herbs blooming card.

Inspired by an English coast village

I made a series of greeting cards, with illustrations of houses. (buy them here)
Want to know more about the story behind my work?

During a trip around the coast of Kent, England, I really got inspired by the atmosphere of these villages near the sea. There's something special with the light, the style of the cottages and of course the beautiful landscape. I made a lot of pictures to capture the light of the sea, and remember the colours of the walls and the doors.

This resulted in a series of three greeting cards, with illustrations of the English coast houses.
I wanted these illustrations to reflect the atmosphere of the villages with their small streets. I made these illustrations by hand, using black drawing pens. That way I could emphasize the character of the houses, with all those tiny details like flower pots, different types of doors, drainpipes, little tiles, windows and street lights, that all together make the houses unique. I had a lot of fun drawing this! Not only the building style, but also the colours were fascinating for me. Do you see the pastel candy colours on the picture above? I scanned my handmade illustrations, and digitally coloured the prints. I only added some subtle colours to give it that clean atmosphere. The cards are all printed on heavy card stock, and come with a recycled envelope.
I sell these cards on Etsy.com, do you want to buy one or more? Click here to see the cards in my shop!

Get organized!

I created two new designs that are perfect to get your daily planning organized. I always used kind of boring notepads to write down the things I had to do. But aren't some beautifully designed notepads much better?

Handmade notepad to create a perfect TO DO list

I just designed what I would like to use myself: a simple and clear notepad, with enough space to write everything down, but also a colourful design that makes you smile.
I started by sketching geometric patterns, with a fine drawing pen. Then I created the hand lettering for my notepads, with a fine brush drawing pen, to create small differences in a character. I completed the designs by adding simple but nice light blue dashed lines to write on.

I not only made a TO DO list notepad, but also a nice weekly planner. Since I made it, I've already used the weekly planner a lot.

Handmade weekly planner: gives a great overview of your week

It's perfect to get a great overview of the most important things you want to do in a week.

All hand bound!

You can use the weekly planner for more than a year (it has 60 pages). It gives one column to write for every day, and it also has some space to write what's important to do that week in general.

The two notepads can be bought in my Etsy shop: papierdier.etsy.com

Printed on nice eco-friendly paper in off-white
I stamped the back sides of the pads with my logo

I've reopened my shop!

Surprises are coming...

I have been busy for a while, creating new designs for my paper goods shop on Etsy. During that time, I closed my shop temporarily to focus on designing. And I have some good news, I reopened my shop! Of course with the handmade notebooks and other paper goods that you know from me, and some new designs are coming! (Have you already spotted the 3 brand new items?)

I'll keep you updated..!

Piet Zwart - a Dutch Designer with 100 talents

[UPDATE: My poster will be in an exhibition, thank to your votes! I ended up in the top 10!

I'm currently joining a design competition about Piet Zwart, I had to design a film poster for a documentary about this Dutch Designer. I earlier posted an article about that.
I would like to show you some more things about Piet Zwart. Whether you like his work or not - the things he did in his time (1885-1977) are interesting to see. And the more you read about it, the more interesting it gets. Said enough - just look at some pictures I made of the monograph about Piet Zwart!
(Piet Zwart | 1885-1977 | Vormingenieur, by Yvonne Brentjens)

You can click to enlarge the pictures.

Piet Zwart was a typographer...
...he was an architect...
...interior designer...
...photographer...
...textile designer...
...graphic designer (by using photomontage)...
... and he made drawings of his experiences in life.

Here are two designs for pieces of furniture that Piet Zwart made. These chair designs are from 1919 and 1920. Since I saw these fine line drawings yesterday, I see my own poster design from a different perspective!

Two chair designs by Piet Zwart

Let's see, here is my poster design: (the letters are fine drawings too, made by hand)

My design for the poster competition Alles Moet Nieuw - Piet Zwart
Do you see how it's related?

P.S. And what do you think of the following paintings of a dancer? They look very modern, don't they? These drawings are from 1920!
