The printed book: a visual history
You know how much I love books? That's why I'll definitely be going to “The Printed Book: A Visual History,” an exhibition (running through May 13) at the Special Collections department of the University of Amsterdam. Drawn from the university’s book collection, which is among the world’s finest, the exhibition shows the evolution of book design. The best designed books through the years are showed, from ancient atlases to the art book designs of our time. More info in English: read this article by the New York Times or at manystuff.org.

Inspiring: The Morran book project
I just discovered this great project, and wanted to share it with you!
This book project was started by the wonderful illustrator and artist Camilla Engman. She had a little dog named Morran, and in this book illustrators from all around the world contributed by making portraits inspired by the dog. You should really see it! It's a wonderful book! The good thing is: you can browse through the book online (see above), and see all the great pages, but you can also buy it.
(Profit goes to the World Society for the Protection of Animals.)
Unfortunately Morran past away. But I'm sure this book is a great tribute to her!
Inspirerend: The Morran Book Project

My favourite books - part 2
I'm going to share with you some of my favourite books from the field of art & design.
Part 2: Sheila Hicks: Weaving as metaphor - designed by Irma Boom
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This intriguing book is definitely at the top of my wish list. Irma Boom, a very talented Dutch graphic designer, created this book. The book displays over fifty of artist Sheila Hicks' experimental woven textile pieces. Her weaving art is amazing, the way she works with colour, texture, composition and narrative... you just have to see it. The textile pieces by Sheila Hicks are as intriguing as an abstract painting, you see new things everytime you look at it. Irma Boom made the perfect book that fits to the approach of the artist Sheila Hicks. The book is a thick block, entirely white, which gives the work on the inside even more power. The book block is cut in a way that the paper itself feels like it's woven. That's why it isn't strange that Irma Boom won the Gold Medal for the "Most Beautiful Book in the World" Prize given at the Leipzig Book Fair.
Mijn favoriete boeken - deel 2
Deel 2: Sheila Hicks: Weaving as metaphor - ontworpen door Irma Boom
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Free DIY tag-a-magazine
Hi everyone!
I made these free magazine tabs for you to easily tag the best articles in magazines. It's nice to keep your magazines, but sometimes it happens that you think: where did I read that great story or got that wonderful idea?
Here's the solution.

I've made 2 versions of these tags, one with the tags allready filled in (inspiration, great idea, good story, beautiful, wishlist & to do),
and 1 version with blank tags for you to fill in whatever you want (or draw a little icon like I did).
How it works:
Click on these images below to open a preview of the pdf-file and then click on File --> Download original. Print the pdf-files on heavy paper (A4-size), the heavier the better. Trim the tags. Then score carefully along the dotted lines. Ready! Have fun!
By the way, have you seen what magazine I used for the pictures? It's the great magazine UPPERCASE.
